Re: Werner Greve

Thanks, Chris. Hope you enjoyed the Peers story. And it would be remiss of me not to thank you for your help in the story. Without that paper clipping from the 60's, I could not have put two words together. As usual, the newspapers got the name of the ships wrong, but long hours on google gave me the ships names and correct information, even the U-Boats and their captains. But I am divulging too much info here. This was one of the most amazing stories in all of speedway.

And both Werner Greve's cars are in the NSW Vintage club restored. The ex-Johnny Harvey/Werner Greve/Frank Brewer car now ownerd by Bill Wells, and the ex-Tony Saylor/Bob Tattersall/Jack O'Dea/Don Mackay/Nick Collier/Len Brock, etc., etc., etc., everybody Offenhauser.

Add Peter Cunneen to the #13 car.

Little correction there, Dalee it will be in Peter Whites 'Speedway Memories' not 'Speedway World'.

It could of been a movie, or even a mini series. I first heard the story when I was complaining about something to him. As often the case, your elders say "You do not know what tough is". I listened to him and then thought "Your right! Life is good, I have nothing to complain about".
Everyone should grab a copy of this when it hits the newstand.
Chris.

Re: Werner Greve

The drivers and riders of that era were a very special and colourful group of people the like of which we will never see again. No flash haulers, many not wearing fire retardant tracksuits (Bobby Holts famous photo in shorts 15 feet in the air) all living for the moment probably because of the unstable years they grew up in (w/war 2 etc). These guys weren't just Speedway stars, they were stars of the Sydney scene and were known and idolised by thousands. And the cars? Now thats another story.

Boy,Gambler, you got that right when you say colorful! Names like Tubby Black and Johnny Miller, guys the modern day people would not know. these two lived near the Kings Cross area and lived colorful lives in and around the Sydney underword, probably too colorful to write about! And an official who was a real mystery by the name of Bill Neighbour. When I tried to find history on him, none of the old-timers knew where he lived. He kept very much to himself.
