Gunnedah Speedway Primed to Host Thunder Through the Plains Sprintcar Series Opener

Gunnedah Speedway Primed to Host Thunder Through the Plains Sprintcar Series Opener this Saturday Night:

The opening round of the exciting Thunder through the Plains Sprintcar Series is to be held this Saturday night (November 8) at Gunnedah Speedway (North Western NSW) in what is going to the tracks second race meeting for the 2008/09 season.

A total of 19 thundering 410ci 800 plus horsepower Sprintcars are set to make the trek up to the Gunnedah Speedway track, and they are certainly going to be a sight to be seen as they reach speeds of up 150km/hour.

Headlining the contenders list for the Thunder through the Plains Sprintcar Series are pre race favourites, Ian Loudoun and Adrian Maher, and then you cannot drivers such as Andrew Wright, James Thompson, Mark Blyton, Jeremy Cross, and Northern Territory visitor Ben Atkinson as they are not heading up to Gunnedah Speedway just to make up the numbers.

With the majority of the field coming from the Sydney area, there is a number of country based racers with Andrew Wright, who is a former two times Australian Litre Sprintcar Champion and a last start Sprintcar feature race winner at Gunnedah Speedway, and resides in Muswellbrook, and then there is Dubbo based chargers Mark Blyton and Jeremy Cross. The last time the Sprintcars were at Gunnedah Speedway it was Blyton that took out the feature race honours and there is no doubt that he wants to add another victory to his tally.

Throw in drivers such as Mark Richards, Damien Abbott, Stuart Williams, David Craft, Glen Saville, Peter Johnson, Mick Matchett, Gavin Black, Jim Townsend, Matt Hinton, Anthony Barrie, and the lone teenage female racer Taylor Johnson, and you have a very strong and competitive line up of Sprintcars that are ready to let loose around the Gunnedah Speedway track.

There is no doubt that the Sprintcars are the arguably most popular form of Speedway in Australia, and this Saturday night the Gunnedah Speedway is going to showcase the fabulous spectacle of thundering Sprintcars.

In terms of a race format for the Thunder Through the Plains Series each driver is to contest two heat races, followed by the Top 12 highest point scorers split into two dash races, a last chance B-main qualifier, and a 30-lap feature race.

Apart from spectacular Sprintcar action there going to be plenty of giveaways and crowd interaction throughout the night for all race fans, especially the children.

Supporting the Sprintcar action are the ‘Ford VS Holden’ Street Stocks, 2 Litre Sedans, Junior Sedans, and the ‘Crash and Bash’ Fender Benders.

Admission prices for Gunnedah Speedway on Saturday night are $20 for adults, $12 for aged pensioners, $12 for students aged between 16 and 12 years, and children under 12 years are admitted free providing they are accompanied by a paying adult. A family pass is $56 which includes two adults and up to three students.

A special service for Gunnedah Speedway race fans this season is a free courtesy bus that leaves the Regal Hotel at 5.30pm and the Wolsey Park at 5.45pm, both pick up points are in the Gunnedah CBD. Bus returns to Gunnedah town after race meeting.

The Gunnedah Speedway is located on Bluevale Road, Gunnedah.
