Speedcars Set To Return To Sungold Stadium

Wednesday, 3 February 2010
Premier Speedway

The Speedcar Super Series will make its long awaited return to the famed high banks of Sungold Stadium Premier Speedway, Warrnambool for round 7 of the 2009-10 edition of the Speedcar Super Series on Saturday February 13, 2010, with thanks to Warrnambool Rapid Mix Concrete.

With the very best drivers from right around Australia set to converge on Warrnambool for a wild and wingless night of Speedcar action all race fans are urged to get along and check out the Mighty Midgets.

“We at Premier Speedway are really excited to have the Speedcar Super Series on board for the 2009-10 season, what we now need is for the Speedway community to vote with their feet and show us that Speedcars really do have a place on our calendar. I am sure that Ken Jenkins and his team will bring a top class show to the table”, Premier Speedway General Manager David Mills said.

“The support of Warrnambool Rapid Mix Concrete cannot be underestimated either, without their support these type of events are difficult to co-ordinate as we set about encouraging all Speedway fans to come along to Warrnambool in February because we feel the racing these guys will put on will be some of the best Speedcar action seen anywhere”, Mills added.

The board and management of Premier Speedway have been closely monitoring the Speedcar Super Series over the past couple of seasons and with the National Championship set to be decided just a week after the Warrnambool round saw the opportunity to showcase the class and continue to educate the Premier Speedway fans as to the abilities of some of the drivers and teams, much the same as they did last season with the re-introduction of the Super Sean Tri-City Challenge which was a truly amazing night of racing.

As a part of Warrnambool Rapid Mix’s commitment to the Premier Speedway Club some notable improvements have already been implemented at the venue prior to the commencement of the season.

“There were a couple of areas we wanted to improve, which is the way we tend to operate as a Club, with the wings on the start chute and some repairs to the pole line we have now achieved that and look forward to working with Warrnambool Rapid Mix Concrete on the next phase of our improvements”, Mills said.

Be a part of history and support the 2009-2010 Speedcar Super Series at Sungold Stadium, Premier Speedway, Warrnambool on Saturday February 13, 2010

Speedcar Super Series Set For Sungold Stadium

Tuesday, 9 February 2010
Gavin White

Warrnambool’s Sungold Stadium is primed and ready to welcome Australia’s best Speedcar drivers this Saturday night, February 13 when the Triple X Speedcar Super Series hits the famed high banks for the very first time. Three time and defending SSS champion Mark Brown heads a quality field of the nations finest Speedcar exponents in what promises to be a spectacular debut from one of the sports most exciting divisions.

“Some of us drivers have been talking about Warrnambool all year,” confirmed championship leader Brown.

“The Speedcar Super Series guys have been talking about Warrnambool all year and right from the day it was announced we have been talking about it.”

Brown’s sentiments are echoed throughout the Speedcar fraternity with everyone involved keen to test their abilities at arguably one of the raciest tracks in Australia. Sungold Stadium has produced some of the best racing surfaces in its 51 year history this season and with Brown and co. coming with arguably one of the highest quality fields of the season it promises to be an exciting nights racing.

“The best thing that could happen is that we can get a slick middle, moisture on the bottom and moisture on the top where we can come through and do slide jobs,” hinted Brown.

The track maintenance crew will be warning Brown to be careful what you wish for since the Warrnambool venue has produced some great racing in recent meetings. Despite not ever attending the Standard sponsored Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic in person, Brown was an interested spectator online via the live webcast of the most recent edition of the storied event.

“I don’t even think I have been to a Classic because we have always been racing but I watched the Classic on the Internet the other night and that was pretty exciting.”

“I can’t wait to race there, I have been waiting for this night for about 15 years!”

Formerly from Melbourne, Brown now resides in Sydney and has enjoyed his share of career highlights behind the wheel of a Speedcar. A three time SSS champion sees the hard charging Brown as the most dominant force in Speedcar racing in the past three seasons. Brown’s 24-year career began in 1986 however his first journey to Warrnambool came in the 1987 season.

“I had my first taste of a rollover at Warrnambool and I have got a little cut on my thumb still to this day where my hand came off the steering wheel and went across the bonnet,” laughs Brown.

Enjoying a career best season last summer, Brown and the Rinkin Racing team have begun to hit their stride since the New Year with a renewed work ethic turning around their relatively slow start to the season in comparison to 2009. Three feature wins and six runner ups have been the story thus far from a season that seems like a distant memory from last summers record breaking results.

“It hurts, I like winning, it’s an addiction I can tell you that. Last year we had 13 feature wins and that just hasn’t been done before in Speedcars. So far this year we have won three but we are starting to turn it around.”

Locked into a championship battle currently with fellow Sydney ace Nathan Smee, Brown holds a slender five-point margin while gun West Australian Scott Glazebrook sits third in the standings coming into Warrnambool. Both Smee and Glazebrook will look to dethrone Brown this Saturday night while other contracted SSS drivers include Sydney’s Troy Jenkins, Queenslander’s Grant Draney, Mick Harders and Adam Wallis. WA veteran Keith Giles will also relish the chance to compete at Sungold Stadium will join South Australia’s Ben Dillon and John McKay.

Also on the program the Australian Wingless Sprints will contest the fifth round of the popular Super Six Series with a huge field expected to attend. Backed by Parr Motorsport the series is very even with some excellent young up and coming drivers mixing it with the seasoned racers.
