This Saturday Night is Speedway Night in Gunnedah

This Saturday Night is Speedway Night in Gunnedah:

By: Gunnedah Speedway PR

The re-opening of Gunnedah Speedway will take place this Saturday night (October 29) and a strong lineup of classes are set to be unleashed in what is the first of five scheduled shows for season 2005/06.

Headlining the bill this weekend will be the V8 Super Sedans, who will contest their second round of the NSW series and a prize purse totaling $ 5000 will be on offer. Defending series champion Tony Barklimore will be the driver everyone will the main driver to beat, with the likes of Luke Pyne, Paddy Ward, the Cross brothers Jeremy and Michael, Nathan Disney, Gunnedah Speedway promoter Barry Towers and a host of others looking to steal Barklimore’s thunder.

AMCA Nationals have confirmed that they will have drivers from North and South of NSW to invade the Gunnedah Speedway venue in their chase for victory.

The opening of the four round Street Stock series is expected to see the action be fast and furious and a field of 20 plus drivers fight for their share of the $ 1200 prize money on offer. (Sponsorship is still available for this series)

Namoi Valley Holden will bring to you crash and bash, via the ever popular Fender Benders and will provide some light entertainment for the expected large crowd. A prize purse of $750.00 will be up for grabs over the four rounds.

With amenities at the Gunnedah Speedway improved out of sight since he has taken over the venue, Towers’ firmly believes that the opening show this weekend will be the commencement of a fantastic season for all speedway fans.

“Leading up to our opening meeting there is a lot of excitement amongst our entire organisation and hopefully we can get off on the right foot,” said Towers. “Since I have taken over Gunnedah Speedway there have been a lot of improvements made, which includes updating the track, fence and all the spectator facilities to make everyone’s night as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.”

Towers continued on by saying that the opening meeting features a strong lineup of divisions to cater for everyone’s Speedway likes.

“The action amongst the Super Sedans will be a highlight of the night and a strong field has nominated and should provide plenty of action packed racing,” expressed Towers. “Any number of drivers is capable of winning on any given night and the driver to beat will be undoubtedly defending NSW series champion Tony Barklimore.”

One special aspect across all four divisions on the night will be the fact that there will be a mix of local drivers and that is sure to create a lot of interest amongst the fans.

“There are plenty of local drivers ready to take compete at their home track and it’s been a while since they have had the opportunity to race here,” Towers commented.

Apart from the strong support of local drivers, Towers said that he has been overwhelmed by the support the local businesses have shown to the Gunnedah Speedway.

“I’ve been quite taken back by the amount of help the Gunnedah community has shown to the re-opening of their Speedway,” expressed Towers. “They have all wanted to help out in their special way and believe me every little bit helps. There are still plenty of opportunities available for anyone that may want to be a part of Gunnedah Speedway either as a committee member or corporate backer.”

The Junior Quarter Midgets will be part of the pre-program at Gunnedah Speedway this season and a field of 10 youngsters will compete on a special infield track that has been built. Their racing is scheduled to get underway between 1pm and 4pm, with the main program beginning at 6.30pm. There is also going to be competition set down for the person that can come up with a name for the Junior Quarter Midget track.

Admission prices for Gunnedah Speedway will be $ 15 for Adults, Pensioners $12.00, $ 10 for kids aged between 12 and 16, and kids under the age of 12 will be admitted free, if accompanied by an adult.
