| Holden VS Ford Battle for 2008/09 Season Kicks off this Saturday Night Holden VS Ford Battle for 2008/09 Season Kicks off this Saturday Night: In what promises to be a close and exciting 2008/09 season, the Sydney Street Stock Championship is primed to begin this Saturday night (October 4) at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway (TPCR). The Holden VS Ford battle has attracted for the season opener a total of 24 drivers who are all keen to stake their claim for the Sydney Club Championship crown for the 2008/09 season. Defending Sydney Club Champion, Shane Carlson (Ford Falcon), is the driver everyone is going to be hunting after as he will occupy the # 1 on the side of his car throughout the season. Carlson, who now has a total of two Sydney Club Championships to his name, and he is certainly to find the going very tough as he attempts to successfully defend his crown. One driver that is very eager to make the Sydney Club Championship his own is Glenn Mitchell (Ford falcon) and after he narrowly missed out on last season’s championship due to a spate of mechanical dramas during the final round and ended up finishing in second place. Heading into his third season in the Street Stock class Brett Mitchell (Ford Falcon) has set his intentions on improving on his third place finish in last season’s Sydney Club Champion no doubt. Mitchell, who is the younger brother of fellow rival Glenn, picked up two feature race victories last season at TPCR, and with a newly built AU Ford Falcon he will mean business. Switching makes for this season is former Holden Commodore pilots Richard Elliott and ex NSW Fender Bender Title holder Neil White who moved into Ford Falcons. Impressive rookie from last season ex Formula Vee racer Adam Brook (Ford Falcon) is very keen to get back into the swing of things and continue to improve. With an influx of Ford Falcons within the Sydney Club Championship field, there are a number of Holden Commodore campaigners that are focused on flying the flag high for the red lion include former Sydney Club Champion Robbie Swain, youngster Troy Dean, Peter Handley, Nathan Pantovich, Michael Butt, Phil Clark, Darren Nicholls (aboard a VT Commodore), and Greg Cook. Other drivers in Ford Falcon looking to fight their way to the front of the field are the likes of Charlie Dobson, Bruce Clark, veteran Graham Arnold, Robert Metcalf, and Shane Ward. Ex Junior Sedan ace and third generation racer Martin Blackley is another addition to the Street Stock ranks in Sydney, and the Cullen Bullen, near Lithgow, based teenager is certainly one to keep an eye on. Rookies that join the Sydney Club Championship field this season are Junior Sedan graduates Emma Darcy (Ford Falcon) and Mitchell McBride (Ford Falcon). It is certainly going to be interesting throughout the season to see how Darcy performs as she takes fight up to her male rivals. Newcastle based club members, Michael Bone, Bruce Smith and John Edmunds, will also be present on Saturday night. The race format for this Saturday night’s season opener is three heat races, and a feature race.
