Junior Quarter Midget Nationals Set To Blast Off
7/03/2008 1:34:20 PM - BCM Motorsports Marketing

Action will be a plenty this weekend in the sleepy Avalon town as over 15 of the nations best Junior Quarter midget races contest in the 2008 Junior National Quarter Midget national Titles.

The Victorian Junior Quarter Midget Club (JQMV) based in Avalon, Victoria will be hosting the National Title for the Quarter Midgets this weekend.

There will be three different classes this weekend to see which driver earns the right to wear number 1 in 2008.

Current 120cc Australian Champion Danny Carroll will be there defending his title from 2007 but his title will be hotly sought after by some of Australia’s up & coming Quarter Midget talent in, current Australia #3 Chase Anderson, Victorian brothers Bobby & Riley Richardson, lady racers Jessie Garlick & Jamie-lee Smith also running in the 120cc class is 8yo rookie sensation Jordyn Charge driving in the Westside Honda/Adam Brand/Mathew Reed Signs #34 and could be one to watch out for.

In the 160cc class some of the names to look out for include the V11 of Daniel Burleigh, the V21 of Tyler Carter; Lady Racer Tahlia Roberts in the V22 & Daniel Pegg in the Steve Pegg backed V31.

Junior Quarter Midget racing in Australia is still in it’s infancy but is in a thriving period right now with plenty of cars all around the nation.

Junior Quarter Midgets Australia is a family series dedicated to kid’s motor racing. The sport involves racing in specially prepared ¼ midget race cars. The cars, rules and safety procedures are designed specifically for kids ages 5 through to 16 yrs.

They race on oval tracks between 80 and 120 meters in length. Safety features include full roll cages, multi-point seat harnesses, full-face helmets, and complete fireproof race suits. The sport prides itself on safety considerations and has fewer injuries than junior football. Junior Quarter Midgets Australia is constantly reviewing and evaluating safety rules to ensure that quarter midget racing remains a safe competitive sport.

The racing environment is about children and family. Not only do kids learn valuable skills and sportsmanship, but they also make new friends. Mum and Dad will make new friends too.

Quarter Midgets... A Quarter Midget is a ¼ scale version of an actual open wheel midget racer. The cars are built around a chrom-moly tubular frame including anti intrusion bars and kick-outs, to stop wheel interference. They are fully suspended with springs or torsion bars and shock dampening.

The bodies consist of fiberglass and aluminium, and painted to the driver’s preference. They are powered by a Honda single cylinder air-cooled 4-cycle engine and produce 5.5 horsepower.

This is a great way to get your child and family in to dirt track Speedway and emulate their hero’s like Brooke Tatnell, Mathew Reed, Max Dumesny & Danny Reidy.

Don’t miss the action at the Avalon ¼ Midget Speedway in Lara Victoria this weekend for the Australian Junior Quarter Midget National Titles.
