CRIMMINS RACING COMPETITIVE IN AUSTRALIAN TITLE
After some good results in lead up races the Crimmins Racing Team was quietly confident of a competitive showing in the Australian Late Model Championship at Borderline Speedway Mt Gambier (SA) March 7/8. Time Trialling in 24th position, the S10 started out of position 6 in Heat 1, where Mat Crimmins steered the car to a fine 3rd place finish. Off pole in the next Round it was an all-the-way Heat win to the S10, with Mat repeating the dose in his 3rd Round Heat after once again starting off pole. At the completion of Night 1 the Crimmins Racing S10 sat second on points behind Western Australia racer Jason Oldfield. The first Round of competition on Night 2 saw the S10 start 8th in its Heat, with Mat bringing the car home to another strong 4th place finish. After finishing 3rd on points the S10 qualified into the A Dash (to decide the start line-up for the A Main) where Mat found the going tough, starting from position 3 and finishing 5th. In the A Main Mat settled into a rhythm and ran in the top half of the field for most of the distance, but with the race being punctuated by a number of restarts the fuel on board the S10 started to dwindle, and Mat was forced to point the car infield while running 6th late in the race. Some consolation for the Team was the fact that the S10 was the second fastest car over both nights, with Mat recording a 12.8 lap, just behind Darren Kane’s 12.7. The A Main saw Western Australia’s Brad Blake win his 5th Australian Late Model Title, with NSW racers Darryl Grimson and Dave Robertson the minor placegetters.
