Shannon Meakins has come out on top as highest on points at the SDAV Hot Rod clubs annual Laang Speedway visit on February the 21st after the meeting finished early after a downpour left the host club no alternative accept to curtail the rest of the night before the feature could be run.

Meakins (# 84 - Kilmore Towing & Transport) out scored his wife Kali Hovey, veteran Allan Luckett, state champion Dean West, President Phil Jenkins & the ever improving Dylan Linehan in the Thunder Down Under round.

Before the rain intervened, three heats were run with wins to Luckett (# 16 - Intech Motorsports), Meakins and Hovey.

Starting originally from the second row, Luckett moved up to the front line in heat one when Jenkins didn’t take his place in pole position due to a fuel leak. Luckett led the two back row starters of Hovey (# 22 - Ribeau Interstate Transport) & Meakins from start to finish over eight laps whilst Linehan held out West for fourth until lap five when the state champion finally got past.

West (# 1 – Lumbar Softwoods) & Luckett began on the front row in heat two, however both were out driven by Meakins from position three on the grid as he went on to win. Luckett led Meakins until lap six before Meakins got past, whilst West held third place from start to finish with Hovey back in fourth ahead of Jenkins & Linehan (# 28 – Bronson Sheetmetal).

The third & final heat race began with Hovey from pole position and she made the most of this in front of Meakins & Jenkins (# 3 - P & S Automotive). Linehan was strong in fourth place until lap three where he spun in turn two relegating himself to the rear of the field at the restart. Hovey beat Meakins, Jenkins, West, Luckett & Linehan to the chequer flag.

The Rods head to Moama’s Heartland Raceway on February the 28th for the next round of the Thunder Down Under Series.
