Shepparton businessman & Goulburn Valley Motorsport maestro, Dennis Myers has closed out the 2014/15 season with a victory in the final round of the Ballistic Performance Parts Masters Series for Grand Prix Midgets at Rushworth Speedway defeating the driver who went on to become this years ‘Masters Champion’ Lisa Chalcraft a Mooroopna local & Trevor Perry.

With support from Oil Hydraulics Shepparton for the final round of racing, the field started minus the national champion Danny Stainer whom had an accident away from speedway in the days leading up to the race meeting & was not fit to compete, however the field included Chalcraft (# 15 Jacobson’s Transport – Suzuki) & her closest challenger for the Masters series honours, Chris Fowler.

Starting from pole position Trevor Perry led lap one from Myers & Kyriacou (# 44 Liqui Molly – Yamaha), at the back of the field as they crossed the start finish line Fowler rolled around with a clutch that was slipping just to gain points, not the result he needed in heat one with a handful of points separating himself from a series win.

Drama then occurred for Chalcraft who spun in turn one on lap three only for stewards to deem that she was not at fault and place her back in her spot only for it to happen again on lap four, this time penalising Johnny Kyriacou for causing the spin by sending him to the rear of the field.

Myers sat out the front of the field & Chalcraft passed Trevor Perry (# 55 Quick Race Parts – Suzuki) into second whilst Kyriacou worked his way back into third place whilst Gary Jacobson, Trevor Perry & Fowler rounded out the finishers with Paul Perry a non finisher due to engine concerns along with Hayden Bacon & Travis Florimell (# 81 Prestige Steelcraft – Suzuki) broke a drive chain.

In between heats the Fowler team replaced his clutch ready to go in the # 13 Castrol supported race car.

Chalcraft & Trevor Perry were front row starters in the second heat with Jacobson changing into the Australia # 1 car and starting from the back of the field. Trevor Perry lead the first lap of heat two with Chalcraft, Paul Perry, Myers, Kyriacou, Jacobson (# 1 Pitstop Mowers – Yamaha), Fowler, Florimell & Bacon behind.

Myers moved past Chalcraft on lap three & was in second by lap four whilst Paul Perry was holding out Jacobson for third. With a broken crank Trevor Perry limped home for the win in front of Myers, Paul Perry, Jacobson, Chalcraft, Florimell, Fowler & Bacon whilst Kyriacou with a broken chain was a non finisher.

Paul Perry didn’t get to start the third heat due to a head gasket being blown on his # 6 Perry Bros Chassis machine. Florimell & Fowler began at the front of the field with Myers & Kryiacou right behind them, Chalcraft further back & again Jacobson at the rear of the field.

Trevor Perry from sixth on the grid stormed to the lead on lap one with Myers getting in behind him then Kyriacou in third. On the second lap Trevor Perry’s car smashed a front sprocket shaft out of the casing causing him to lose third gear & requiring him to finish the heat in top gear.

Myers (# 11 Super Balance Shepparton – Suzuki) assumed the lead on lap two and led Kyriacou & Jacobson by lap three, right through to the end of the race where Chalcraft finished fourth, Florimell ahead of Fowler & Trevor Perry rounded out the finishers.

With the top qualifiers to the back of the field then any driver changing cars to start the final behind them the field started with Florimell in pole from Jacobson, Chalcraft, Myers, Trevor Perry & Fowler with Fowler in the # 5 car that Jacobson started the night in & Trevor Perry in Kyriacou’s car.

The green dropped & Myers led Jacobson, Chalcraft, Fowler, Trevor Perry & Florimell across the start line for the first time. On lap two Perry started to progress forward getting past Fowler & Jacobson. On lap five Jacobson exited the race with a flat front right tyre and then right through to the end of the ten lap final Myers led Chalcraft, Kyriacou, Fowler & Florimell to take the win in the Oil Hydraulics supported round.

Myers was pleased with his result. “Our club is getting stronger & stronger & next season I can see it is going to be very hard to win races if drivers we have now stick with us & new drivers talking about joining us find race cars. To win tonight was very pleasing & I would like to congratulate local woman Lisa Chalcraft on her season win, very well deserved Lisa, you should be extremely proud.”

The overall series win was in the Ballistic Performance Parts Masters Series went the way of Lisa Chalcraft by the way of 27 points over the much improved Fowler who had his strongest overall season yet. Trevor Perry almost got past Fowler on the last night of racing & would have if not for the sportsmanship show by Mark Shiells to allow Fowler into his # 5 car.

Despite not competing all season Rodriguez, Jacobson, Stainer & Myers secured spots five to eight & rookie Hayden Bacon snuck into tenth spot at the very last meeting.

The thirteen top point scorers were:
    Chalcraft 527
    Fowler 500
    T.Perry 497
    Kyriacou 378
    Rodriguez 339
    Jacobson 289
    Stainer 287
    Myers 272
    P.Perry 250
    Bacon 208
    Florimell 200
    Booker 195
    Caddy 190
