With Swan Hill Speedway Club really embracing the Standard Saloon division in recent seasons & having held the state title last season, the contingent from the North East of Victoria & across to the Mallee will be healthy with eleven competitors nominated to compete this weekend in the Victorian Standard Saloon title at Rosedale Speedway.

Swan Hill have six drivers entered with Claude Pearson, Tom Lambert, Leighton Warburton, David Herbert, Ken Higgins & Paul Hulands representing the club. There is a good mixture of experience (Pearson & Higgins) & youth (Warburton & Lambert) in the group whilst others like Dave Herbert have been doing a lot of travelling to other venues this season in order to gain experience quickly in readiness for the title weekend.

Corowa – Rutherglen Speedway club are represented by two competitors Warrick Howie & Brendan Eames, with Howie a red hot chance in the title race & somebody the Gippslanders will have to watch out for.

Howie has been winning at Wahgunyah, Alexandra & Wangaratta on a regular basis over the last twelve months & has been working on his good engine to have it prepared for the Victorian title whilst driver Trevor Kuhne’s car regularly.

Wangaratta Speedway club have three entrants however are missing the dynamic Station Wagon duo of Gary & Trevor Evans.

Andrew Robl, Aaron Field & Stuart Densem will be flying the flag for the Wangaratta fans with Robl & Densem proving themselves as more than capable in mixing it up with the stronger drivers from Gippsland when they visit Wangaratta.

In this scribes opinion the most likely top five finisher from the North East & Mallee will be Howie, however expect another driver from those mentioned here to qualify directly into the title race.

    Corowa Speedway Club

    5 Warrick Howie
    42 Brendon Eames

    Wangaratta Speedway Club

    24 Andrew Robl
    35 Aaron Field
    68 Stuart Densem

    Swan Hill Speedway Club

    22 Claude Pearson
    32 Tom Lambert
    33 Leighton Warburton
    38 David Herbert
    47 Ken Higgins
    78 Paul Hulands

The Victorian Speedway Council wish all drivers form the North the best of luck down South in this weekend’s Standard Saloon title.
