    Street Stockers Ready to Rock

Tamworth’s Oakburn Park Speedway is regarded as one of the state’s most popular tracks. This Saturday night (March 24) the latest round of the 2011/12 season Pit Crew supported Newcastle Street Stockers Club Championship will be fought out at the North Western New South Wales track.

The Pit Crew supported Newcastle Club Championship; which sees rounds held between the Gunnedah Speedway, Gilgandra Speedway and Oakburn Park Speedway tracks; has a total of four drivers battling it out at the top of the current point standings. Two of those four drivers, Andrew Fuller (Holden Commodore) and Dave Hollier (Ford Falcon), are all eager to thunder around the 465 metre Oakburn Park Speedway track in an effort to contend for the winning spoils and build an advantage over the other in the point standings battle. Unfortunately the two of drivers at the pointy end of the point standings, Brett Mitchell (Ford Falcon) and Brett Cotton (Ford Falcon), will not be attending due to prior racing commitments.

Close to 20 drivers have nominated for the latest round of the Pit Crew supported Newcastle Club Championship at Oakburn Park Speedway and there a number of drivers aiming to upset the form guide. These drivers include the likes of Lucas Walters (Ford Falcon), the father and son team of Steve (Ford Falcon) and Ashley Hall (Ford Cortina), Bruce Smith (Ford Falcon), and Mark Johnson (Ford Falcon) shape as front running threats. In terms of the local threats, aside from Steve and Ashley Hall, there will be a number of others aiming for a strong showing on home soil.

Despite not being further up the point standings ladder than they would like; John Edmonds (Ford Falcon) and the Racecourse Motorsport team of Darren Cassidy (Holden Commodore), Colin Bowden (Holden Commodore) and Michael Bone (Ford Falcon) are confident of challenging at the pointy end of the field. Edmonds will be debut his recently purchased AU Ford Falcon, while Cassidy is hoping to overcome his run of bad luck in the opening rounds after suffering a string of engine woes.

Amongst the other nominations are Tony Lantry (Ford Falcon), Alex Merrick (Holden Commodore), Craig Davidson (Holden Commodore), and the Gunnedah based pairing of Todd and Trent Keeler (both Ford Falcons).

Female challengers Kylie Anderson (Ford Falcon) and Belinda McGarva (Ford Falcon) are keen to keep their male rivals honest throughout the night.

The latest round of the Pit Crew supported Newcastle Club Championship is going to consist of three qualifying heat races over a distance of 10 laps each and the night will conclude with a 20-lap feature race.
