This weekend Late Model Racing Victoria are set & ready for their number one event of the season with the running of the Victorian Late Model Title at the 670 metre long Wahgunyah Speedway which is on the Victorian side of the Murray River border with New South Wales. With nominations from South Australia, Canberra & New South Wales joining the host Victorians, it is sure to be a sensational night for the division & the Victorian club. The host venue has agreed to spread the field across four heats with each driver competing in three heats, this gives each of the competitors a bit of space which should allow them to get used to the track & its tricks before lining up for the 25 lap final. Nominations are as follows: Vic Cars: V40 Michael Hetherington V32 Wayne Belk V26 Gary Bryans AX 21 Chevy Edwards V10 Justin Pearson 7F Graham Forte NSW/ACT Cars: N7 Scott McPherson N99 Ben Nicastri N89 Liam Heaton N41 Tim Bink S.A. Car: S67 Steve Vaughan Recently at Redline Raceway, Gary Bryans & Graham Forte were the top qualifying Victorians and showed that they are in form and ready to perform, whilst Hetherington in his first season behind the wheel; showed that he cannot be considered a wild card as he is in it to win it. Pearson, who notched up a win early in the season, is looking to have things go a little more his way than they did at Redline, whilst Wayne Belk is settling into his race car after his first meeting that weekend at Redline. Chevy Edwards could be considered a potential top three finisher here as he is the only driver entered with any recent history at the venue, having raced Junior Sedans at Wahgunyah a couple seasons back. The club is very pleased to have Scott McPherson once again in the field after Scott showed a few of them what more than a decade of experience in these machines gives a driver. The hard charging & hard to stop Ben Nicastri, a former South Australian Title winner, comes along with Tim Bink & Canberra’s Liam Heaton to make up the North of the border contingent, whilst Steve Vaughan from South Australia will be flying the South Australian flag solo on Saturday night. The Victorians will not be taking the challenge of the interstate competitors lightly, the number one goal is to keep Victoria #1 in the State so if you love the sound of 900hp multiplied by eleven, then come to Wahgunyah Speedway to see the Late Models strut their stuff on Saturday night. Other racing at the venue begins from 3pm with Wahgunyah looking to give LMRV hot laps once the track settles a little; somewhere between 4 & 5 pm, before then entering into the first Late Model heat.
