What are your thoughts on the 602 crate motor for use in a sportsman division to be also be used as a stepping stone from the junior Dirtmodifieds
I think this is a great move and we help the division grow. By more formally recognising and advertising it to the general public, it will attract new drivers and teams. I will be buying a crate engine to go into a second hand roller. Can't beat the sound of a V8. Woohooo
The main reason is the sportsman class in the US use the 602 motor The main objective is to alien our specs as closely as possible to the most common spec in USA
Is there going to be any change to tyre sizes, fuel type etc... with the 602 cars as there was with the old sportmans/div 2 cars? or will it be simply bolting in the crate motor into an existing chassis and go racing?
There will be no changes at this point there is a committee working on all the details They have been given the job of sorting all the details they have been given 1 month to report back to the executive
use the sealed 602 crate engine the same as the states rev limiter etc dont change tyres or fuel as this will allow these guys to use the second hand tyres of the open cars maybe also look at letting them run s/h sprintcar tyres at club shows.
This will work as a great way to get guys into the sport as long as the cars are run at the same meetings and not allowed to form a break away class. Also need a set of specs so that guys that have a low dollar engine at the moment dont have to spend more money to go and buy a new crate engine but can bring their current engine to within spec..... This is very important..... If we are trying to keep this within a budget then these guys dont have the money to go buy another engine but might have the money to bring their current engines into spec. Very important existing racers are not penalised or made to fork out a bunch more money..... this defeats the purpose of what we are trying to achieve.
I can tell you that even though the details have not yet been finalised, there will be provision for existing cars to run in the Sportsman division, exactly what those provisions are will be anounced as soon as they are finalised.
love to know what this will be as 602 engine is not a bucket full of horsepower The GM 602 Crate Motor is designed to run on 92 to 93 octane fuel and produces 350 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 390 ft.-lb. of torque at 3,800 rpm Read more: 602 Crate Engine Specifications | eHow.com http://www.ehow.com/list_7421107_602-crate-engine-specifications.html#ixzz1ylaPhRdS
